The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has started a new online consultation forum on food security and nutrition to help the general public. The new forum was launched on July 28, 2011.
According to FAO, the online consultation forum will try to gather inputs for the preparation of the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition (GSF). The GSF is being designed and developed to support actions at global and country levels for prevention of food crises in the future.
GSF also aims to eradicate hunger from the world and make food security and nutrition available for all.
“The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) has opened the discussion to the general public, providing a significant opportunity for all stakeholders around the world to participate in the global policy debate and ultimately contribute to this important framework,” said the UN agency on its website.
This will influence food security and nutrition governance, according to the FAO.
The FAO has also launched a $1 million fund for livestock biodiversity management. This fund is in a form of a grant and is designed to help developing countries conserve and sustainably use their livestock breeds.
The contributors to this fund are Germany, Norway and Switzerland.
