The United Nations Foundation recently in partnership with 4INFO has announced the launch of a new mobile campaign. 4INFO, one of the country’s largest mobile advertising companies, using its technology will enable users to sign up to receive text alerts directly on their mobile phones. This is the first such campaign by the UN that will involve general public to take action in helping tackle our greatest challenges.
This is the first leg of larger mobile media campaign, developed by 4INFO aimed at encouraging and boosting mobile interaction and user engagement. UN Foundation the help of its partners is seeking to make mobile outreach and digital engagement a focus of its efforts in 2011.
“If we’re going to be serious about taking philanthropy, advocacy and public engagement to the next level, we’ve got to be serious about leveraging the power of mobile technology,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “This sector is changing fast, and we need to be at the forefront of it. We’re all learning together about how to connect with engaged global citizens using new and innovative media.”
To get involved in this campaign and learn more about the life-saving work of the United Nations, users just need to text “UNF” to 80676. (Message and data rates apply. Through their mobile phones, users will be able to take action to empower women, confront climate change, combat malaria, fight extreme poverty, improve global access to children’s vaccines, ensure gender equality, support the UN’s work to fight famine in the Horn of Africa, promote clean energy, and more.
