2. Partner NGOs will have service-based approaches to cater to the technical needs of the target communities. Further, strengthening their fundraising activities will bring in new funds to support any other areas identified by the communities.
Institutional level
The purpose of building community-based structures such as cooperatives is to ensure that sustainability is in place after the end of the action. As the cooperatives are going to function as business-oriented community organizations with collective production and marketing linkages, they will continue to exist for a long time even after the end of the action or any other external support.
The project will be designed in participation with the community. The community-based planning, review and monitoring system will be developed so that community inputs are included in the overall action strategy. With such exercises, the community will have a strong feeling of owning the action and its outcomes. Besides, community contributions in kind as well as in cash will be encouraged all through the project period. This will also help ensure that local ownership is established and activities are taken over after the end of the action.
Policy level
The proposed action through its strategic policy advocacy activities will influence policymakers to adopt better laws and regulations. As the current political scenario is highly opportune in Nepal with a new permanent constitution expected to be framed by the new government, the proposed project will utilize this opportunity to develop strong legal frameworks against gender-based discrimination. It will promote formulation of laws to prevent trafficking at the grassroots and eliminate all forms of gender-based violence. At the constitutional-level, the project will advocate for the integration of human rights and gender rights and recognition of women’s role in socio-economic development. Through the strategy meetings with policymakers, the project will also ensure that economic policies favour the development of markets for the disadvantaged and conflict-affected communities in Nepal.
