Deadline: 1 April 2016
The Education Endowment Foundation is seeking applications for its North East Primary Literacy Campaign to fund the evaluation of cost-effective and replicable projects that seek to improve the educational attainment of pupils who are eligible for free school meals.
EEF’s focus is on supporting projects that show promising evidence of having a measurable impact on attainment or a directly related outcome.
The campaign is to support pupils struggling with literacy; primary schools must be able to base their decisions on accessible, accurate information about what has succeeded and what has failed in the past.
Aims
- create a reliable, self-improving primary school system in the North East which, by providing high-quality literacy teaching as the expected standard, ensures the maximum possible numbers of pupils are able to read and write well.
- ensure that those children who continue to need additional literacy support to catch up and keep up have access to a range of tried-and-tested programmes in their communities which address their specific needs and which can be self-sufficient beyond the Campaign’s funding.
Campaign’s Key Elements
- Direct support for programmes: New grants to put evidence-based ideas to work in schools with high numbers of disadvantaged pupils
- Place-based advocacy: Engaging local partners in supporting schools to improve literacy attainment
- New resources for school improvement: ‘what works’ support for all primary schools in the North East
Eligibility Criteria
- Well-defined programmes with clear explanation of how they will be implemented within schools or educational settings.
- Evidences that suggests the applicant intervention is effective.
