Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will host its Annual Central Asian Youth Network Seminar: “Building Security Community in Central Asia” at Almaty, Kazakhstan from November 3-5, 2011. OSCE is inviting essays from undergraduate students currently enrolled in institutes of higher education from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. These essays will be used for competitive selection of the students to attend the OSCE Central Asian Student Leadership Seminar.
About OSCE
With 56 States from Europe, Central Asia and North America, the OSCE is the world’s largest regional security organization. It offers a forum for political negotiations and decision-making in the fields of early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation, and puts the political will of its participating States into practice through its unique network of field missions.
The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities.
The Organization comprises 56 participating States that span the globe, encompassing three continents – North America, Europe and Asia – and more than a billion people.
About the Seminar
The seminar will bring together promising student leaders from Central Asian OSCE participating States to improve their knowledge of threats to security in Central Asia and the OSCE commitments. Seminar participants will be selected based on the quality of their application, which should directly address the essay topic: “I am Central Asian. Discuss”.
The working languages of the seminar will be English and Russian, and for this reason students will be required to be fluent in both languages. Essay should be no longer than 500 words, written in English and entered into the application form.
CAYN Alumni are encouraged to apply too.
Successful candidates will be invited, all expenses paid, to attend the seminar in Almaty to participate in panel discussions and interactive exercises with their fellow Central Asian students, CAYN alumni, and leading regional experts.
Application and an essay must be submitted in one Microsoft Word 2003 document
Last date for submitting the essays is October 12, 2011.
