World Pulse invites volunteers to take part in its third annual Voices of Our Future program. The program aims at selecting 30 emerging grassroots women leaders from around the globe for the online new media, citizen journalism and empowerment training course. During the course the Voices of Our Future Correspondents are trained on how to harness the power of new media to broadcast solutions-oriented news from the front lines of some of the most unheard regions in the world. The goal is to provide these women with the tools, knowledge and mentoring they need to vocalize and actualize their visions for change.
The volunteers will join the team as Listeners. Then they will be asked to evaluate and judge a series of short, 500-700 word assignments from applicants over a month-long period. Nearly 600 women from 89 countries applied for the program in 2010. Volunteer listeners help select the most outstanding applicants who will join the full training program in the fall.
Criteria and Commitments for Listeners:
Regular and reliable access to the Internet
– Ability to devote 2-3 hours per week to reading and evaluating assignments from September 13th to October 10th (Assignments are in English. Hours are flexible.)
– Familiarity with online forums
– Ability to provide encouraging, constructive comments on applicants’ assignments
– Heartfelt desire to listen to the stories of women from around the world, and become an insightful and supportive member of World Pulse’s global network of women.
World Pulse will also be holding a one-hour training session on the program and the evaluation process August 30th from 8-9am Pacific Standard Time and September 1st from 12-1pm PST. Conference call details will be emailed to you in August.
Benefits:
The deep and soulful satisfaction of knowing you are participating in a program that will be life-changing for the women you will help select, as well as for yourself as you read and react to their inspiring stories. Also, the amazing opportunity to connect with women from Zimbabwe to Columbia, exchange ideas and laughter together and become friends. Gretchen Lee, a Voices of Our Future volunteer since 2009, wrote:
“Throughout the program, it became crystal clear to me that the entire VOF community was on fire with a genuine outpouring of support, admiration and love for each other. I saw clearly the power of the Internet as a communication tool and a relationship builder for GOOD. My own understanding of the world expanded and giving insight to other women in another place in the world felt so meaningful. It was incredible!”
