A call for applications has been announced by the Gallaudet University for the I. King Jordan Chair in Leadership 2011-2012.
The privately funded Jordan Chair in Leadership will provide platform to researcher, scholars and leaders to explore knowledge in strategic area, that are important, not only important to Gallaudet President Emeritus I. King Jordan, but to deaf people around the world. The Jordan Leadership Fellow produced body of knowledge advance for our understanding in areas of study critical to the next generation of people who are deaf and hard of hearing. To advance its reputation as an epicenter of research and innovation, the Jordan Leadership Fellow will provide worldwide recognition for Gallaudet.
Candidates must exhibit scholarly expertise and propose a research project in one or more of the following academic areas related to the lives of people who are deaf and hard of hearing:
- International and/or domestic advocacy
- The development and maintenance of organizations that are inclusive and recognize the diversity among deaf and hard of hearing people
- The study and implementation of organizational and societal changes that provide bridges between diverse constituencies and among deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people
- The study of literacy
- The study and application of psychology
- The study of linguistics or psycholinguistics
- Research or advocacy projects related to late deafened people.
During the 2011-2012, the Jordan Leadership Fellow will be in residence at Gallaudet academic year and will be expected the results in a measurable outcome, e.g., a book, video, or curriculum. The recipient is required to make at least one presentation to the Gallaudet community related to the funded project for addition of tangible products during his or her tenure.
