The European Public Health Alliance announces a two-year program to train as well as mentor two Roma health with the support of the Roma Health Project.
The major objective fellowship is to increase the capacity of the Roma community for leadership on Roma health at the EU level. The two fellows (and their sending organizations) will get the opportunity to develop their professional skills with a practical and European orientation, and to develop contacts and cooperation with the most important European actors including European Commission, Members of the European Parliament and European networks of NGOs.
The tailored assistance will include mentoring and training components on key EU health processes and the design of an advocacy strategy for an EU Roma Health Strategy. It will also insist on the creation of partnerships with significant EU actors. The fellowship will be mainly done through electronic communication between the fellow and EPHA staff, with frequent travel to Brussels. There is also the opportunity to benefit from a six-month placement (Tutorship) at EPHA in Brussels for a more comprehensive introduction to Brussels advocacy.
The following skills and knowledge will be developed:
- Developing an advocacy strategy, e.g. on an EU Roma Health Strategy
- Understanding the EU decision-making process, with a focus on health actors within the EU institutions, as well as within the broader European scene (e.g., DG SANCO, DG EMPL)
- Building alliances with various organizations operating in the social and field sectors. The organisations will be identified as part of the training
- Developing policy/advocacy messages targeting the EU institutions, and particularly decision makers, that would have an impact on Roma health. Here again, the identification of the decision-makers will be an integral part of the programme.
Application deadline: 12th March 2012
