Named after the North Star that guided slaves towards freedom along the Underground Railroad, Polaris Project has been providing a comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002.
Polaris Project is a leading organization in the United States combating all forms of human trafficking and serving both U.S. citizens and foreign national victims, including men, women, and children. They use a holistic strategy, taking what is learnt from their work with survivors and using it to guide the creation of long-term solutions. They strive for systemic change by advocating for stronger federal and state laws, operating the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline and providing services to help their clients and all victims of human trafficking.
Polaris Project offers a wide variety of fellowship positions with a focus on teaching the leaders of tomorrow how to combat the issue of human trafficking.
Currently, the project is looking for the Client Services Fellow, who will assist the client in social services and advocacy. Polaris Project’ s clients are survivors of sex trafficking and labor trafficking, including both foreign nationals and U.S. citizens, and adults and youth. The Client Services Fellow will be matched with responsibilities based on the fellow’ s background and areas of strength.
Responsibilities:
Client services activities include, but are not limited to, assisting with case management, staffing the daily drop-in center, facilitating the job training program, accompanying clients to meetings and appointments through the criminal justice and social service systems, providing emotional and social support, and coordinating social activities and outings.
Required Qualifications:
– Experience and comfort working with diverse and/or disadvantaged populations.
– Must be extremely reliable, organized, and flexible.
– Flexible schedule including availability on some evenings and weekends.
– Proficiency in either Spanish or French strongly preferred
– Experience working with clients in a social service setting, preferably working with exploited youth, survivors of violence or trauma (preferred)
It is a full-time volunteer position based at Washington, D.C.
