The Citi Group’s Citi Foundation works for economic empowerment and financial inclusion of low- to moderate-income people in communities around the world by providing funding for NGOs, NPOs and other organizations in the following focus areas: Financial Capability & Asset Building, Microfinance, Enterprise Development, Youth Education and Livelihoods, Neighborhood Revitalization, Disaster Response, College Success ( in the US)
The Foundation’s Microentrepreneurship Awards aims at raising awareness about the importance of microentrepreneurship and microfinance in supporting the financial inclusion and economic empowerment of low-income individuals. A “Microentrepreneur of the Year” is identified in each country and recognized for the extraordinary contributions that the microentrepreneur has made to the economic sustainability of their families as well as their communities.
The Foundation invested $76.5 million in 2012 for various philanthropic projects around the world and its partners include the Grameen Foundation, Women’s World Banking, American India Foundation among others.
