Executive Summary
This proposal aims to promote sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation through the development and support of green enterprises. As communities face increasing challenges related to unemployment, poverty, climate change, and environmental degradation, there is a growing need for business models that generate income while protecting natural resources. Green enterprises offer opportunities to create jobs, stimulate local economies, and promote sustainable production and consumption practices. The project will support entrepreneurs, community groups, cooperatives, and small businesses in establishing environmentally sustainable enterprises that contribute to economic growth, resource conservation, and climate resilience.
Background and Context
Economic development and environmental sustainability are closely interconnected. Traditional livelihood activities often depend heavily on natural resources, which can lead to overexploitation, environmental degradation, and reduced long-term productivity. At the same time, many communities lack access to stable employment and income-generating opportunities.
Green enterprises provide innovative solutions that balance economic growth with environmental stewardship. These enterprises operate in sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, waste management, recycling, eco-tourism, sustainable forestry, organic products, green manufacturing, and environmental services.
Supporting green entrepreneurship can create employment opportunities, improve livelihoods, reduce environmental impacts, and contribute to sustainable development goals.
Problem Statement
Communities face several socio-economic and environmental challenges:
- Limited access to sustainable income-generating opportunities
- High unemployment and underemployment rates
- Environmental degradation and unsustainable resource use
- Limited access to finance and business development support
- Low awareness of green business opportunities
- Vulnerability to climate change and economic shocks
These challenges reduce household income, weaken community resilience, and threaten environmental sustainability.
