The Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation is a registered Non Profit Organization and Section 21 Company which offers psychological and emotional support to children, adolescents and adults through the medium of the creative arts therapies. This foundation was incorporated in 2001 by Art Therapist Linda Souchon and Dramatherapist Kirsten Meyer. The vision of the Foundation is to provide psychological, emotional and social support to improve the wellbeing of children, adolescents and adults through the Creative Arts Therapies.
Our main business is to provide creative arts workshops, training and supervision for Child and Youth care-workers, Dramatherapy in Schools and the use of Playback Theatre in order to strengthen psychosocial support service to vulnerable children. Zakheni contracts the services of a collection of Art, Drama, Music and Play Therapists who work in collaboration with Community Arts Practitioners
The Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation offer organizations in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape. Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng,an opportunity to apply for the benefit of participating in our Fire Maker Project Workshops for 2012-2013.
The Zakheni approach is to use the creative arts, storytelling and play to facilitate growth and transformation. The Fire Maker and Wellbeing Workshops are relevant to caregivers and social workers working with vulnerable children in disadvantaged communities.
The Fire Maker Project is a series of four, three-day workshops which are specifically designed to deepen the psychosocial support capacity of child care workers. The course focuses on experiential learning and equips participants with creative techniques in psychosocial support. Different activities as puppet making, storytelling, art and clay activities are explored, as well as basic theory relating to child development and resilience building.
The Fire Maker Project includes a Wellbeing Workshop, a three-day workshop which aims to equip child care workers with the necessary skills to care for their own mental health in the challenging work they do with vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty and conflict. The Fire Maker workshops carry a value of R120, 000.00.
