Grants will be announced Early 2015
The Bloomberg Initiative (BI) Grants Program to reduce tobacco use supports projects that develop and deliver high-impact evidence based tobacco control interventions in countries where there is high tobacco use. Projects must focus on achieving policy change that will lead to substantial reducitons in tobacco use. Priority will be given to projects that lead to sustainable improvements in tobacco control laws, regulations, policies and programs at the national or sub-national level (e.g. provinces, states).
The grant program provides funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government ministries and agencies, civil society organizations, and universities in more than 40 countries. Organizations in low-income, lower-middle-income and upper-middle-income countries are encouraged to submit grant applications. High prevalence is given to countries where tobacco usage is highest.
List of high priority countries: China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Ukraine, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Proposals can be submitted for grants from US$50,000 up to US$500,000 per year. Short-term, one-year and two-year project proposals will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be non-governmental organizations with relevant advocacy experience aimed at changing or implementing policies; or governmental organizations including (not limited to) national ministries, state/provincial authorities and affiliate offices.
- Applicants must belong to one of the following World Bank Income Group countries: low-income, lower-middle-income and upper-middle-income.
- An organization can submit more than one project idea.
- Applications must be submitted via online application system and all applications must be in English language.
- Projects must demonstrate potential to reduce tobacco use.
Grant Process
- Call for proposal will be announced asking organizations to submit a short project idea.
- Short listed organizations will be invited to submit full proposal.
- Grant Award.
