The aim of the Power to Change Fund is for YWCAs to develop programmes for women that lead to access to health information, especially sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), promote and provide safe spaces and combat violence in all spheres, ensure economic independence, preserve the environment, ensure that culture and traditions affect women positively, and encourage intergenerational dialogue and participation in decision-making for young women.
YWCA invite applications for funding for projects that promote at least one of the goals of the World YWCA Strategic Framework:
- Women’s intergenerational leadership : Women, young women and girls exercise their leadership in our lives and communities and advocate for our rights.
- Women’s rights : The social, economic, cultural, political and civil rights of women, young women and girls are promoted and protected through advocacy, programmes and services.
- Movement building and good governance : World YWCA movement effectively fulfils its purpose to develop the leadership of women and girls by functioning at the highest level of organisational accountability.
The Fund will prioritise grants to Member Associations who:
- Support the World YWCA programme priorities of young women’s leadership, sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV, and violence against women.
- Relate their grant application to the overall strategy and long-term planning of the Member Association.
- Show how they will share and replicate experiences with other YWCAs and partners.
- Seek to uphold the World YWCA Standards of Good Management and Accountability
- Fully complete the Application Form (all requirements fulfilled).
- Are up to date with reporting requirements from any previous grants.
Stringent guidelines and application procedures are in place and all Member Associations can apply.
Since its inception, the World YWCA Power to Change Fund has been making a positive difference in the lives of women and young women around the world. Direct grant making to YWCA Member Associations has meant that projects have benefited from a capacity building approach. The Power to Change Fund provides innovative leadership programmes and empowering opportunities through dialogues, training and sharing of experiences and skills on regional, national and global advocacy platforms.
