A guide describing the purpose and aim of the new food justice campaign, GROW, was published by Oxfam. The guide entitled, ‘How to fix the System: An Activist’s Guide to Oxfam’s new food justice campaign – GROW’ throws light on the need for a food justice campaign, and provides instructions to activists on how they can join this campaign.
The main purpose of the guide is to create awareness about various factors, like the imbalance in production and distribution of food, that are responsible for hunger in many parts of the world. It highlights the requirement for an active campaign to combat and change the system, in order to eradicate the problem of hunger that is affecting almost one billion people across the world. The guide shows how GROW can help unite people, who are enthusiastic about fighting hunger, to form a global movement.
The guide clearly defines the challenges faced, due to an outdated system. It provides ample reasons to show that it is time to take some positive action to change the system. Giving examples of people who are hit the worst, the guide attempts to convince activists to join the campaign. It not only shows the fallacies of the system, but also instructs how activists can change it. It gives useful and feasible suggestions that can be utilized by activists who wish to make a difference. It provides ideas which can be put into action; these ideas include organizing picnics for food justice, campaigning using food crops and attending food events.
