The Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights KIOS invites organizations from Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Tibet to apply for grant to implement human rights projects. The KIOS aims to support the promotion of the human rights of the most vulnerable groups.
Priority Areas
- Human rights campaigning, lobbying and advocacy
- Human rights monitoring and documentation
- Human rights awareness raising and education
- Providing legal aid
- Capacity building
Grant applications can be made for any amount required for the project presented in local currency of the country. Funding is not granted for development work, educational projects (unless human rights education), social work, humanitarian aid, research projects or socio-economic support for marginalized groups. No scholarships, fellowships, or financial support for conferences or travelling are awarded.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be from one of the following countries for projects on the same countries – Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Tibet.
- Applicants can be local civil society organizations or working groups and networks of civil society organizations working on human rights issues.
- Applications are open for organization not previously funded by KIOS. Organizations who have been previously funded by KIOS can submit application any time round the year.
- An organization can submit one application per year.
- Concept notes are not considered for funding review.
- Applications must be submitted on the KIOS application form to be considered for funding.
- The budget of the project should be realistic in relation to local price level, project activities and to the capacity and previous experience of the applicant organization.
- Proposed budget should be maximum 90% of the total cost of the project. 10% of the project cost must be self-financing share of the organization.
Complete application includes – completed application form, project budget, two Written references, annual budget, statutes or By-laws, registration certificate, annual report, latest audit reports (from the two previous years) and other relevant additional documents.
