The Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights is a global women’s fund that protects, strengthens and sustains women and transgender human rights defenders at critical moments. The Fund supports women’s human rights defenders (or WHRDs – the activists who take on some of the most challenging issues in their communities and countries) throughout the world striving to create cultures of justice, equality and peace.
Ways of Grantmaking
- Rapid Response Grant – to women and transgender human rights defenders in Asia, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and North America. Grant request can be made for up to US$5,000.
- Advocacy & Alliance Building – to advocate for women and transgender human rights defenders.
- Global Consortium of Urgent Action Funds – to support women and girls’ activism globally.
Application for Rapid Response Fund can be made any time in the year and application can be submitted in any language. Applicant will get response within 72 days of submitting the application.
Categories of Rapid Response Fund
- Potentially precedent-setting legal or legislative actions, or actions that aim to protect a precedent that has already been set.
- Protection and security of women human rights defenders. Evacuation Grants for those women human rights defenders who need urgent relocation because of threats, persecution and/or an extreme security situation also falls in this category.
