Call for Nominations are invited for Regional Workshops for Indigenous and Local Community representatives of the Latin-American and Caribbean Region. Indigenous and local community organizations from the countries of the Latin-American and Caribbean region are invited to nominate representatives and trainers to participate in regional workshops for indigenous and local community representatives.
Two regional capacity building workshops for indigenous and local community representatives and trainers will be held in Asuncion, Paraguay:
•LAC Regional Indigenous and Local Community Preparatory Meeting for COP 11, 13-16August 2012;
•LAC Regional Workshop for Indigenous and Local Community trainers on Articles 8(j), 10(c), and related provisions of the CBD and Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, 17-18 August 2012.
These regional workshops aim to increase the number of indigenous and local community representatives, with an emphasis on women, effectively involved in the CBD processes, as well as to build their capacity to do so. The first regional workshop will focus on Nagoya Protocol and aims at preparing indigenous and local community representatives for the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties, which will be held in Hyderabad, India, on 8-19 October 2012.
