International Justice Mission (IJM) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Director of Accounting in Washington DC, US.
The Director of Accounting can use knowledge of US GAAP and IRS regulations to ensure accuracy in IJM’s Financial Reporting and compliance to all relevant regulations.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Director of Accounting will perform the following functions-
- Provide direct supervision of and support to HQ Accounting team.
- Verify, reconcile, and post entries from three sub-ledgers to the General Ledger as well as entries entered directly to the General Ledger in order to ensure a favorable audit.
- Oversee processes related to all Accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Asset Accounting, and the monthly consolidation of Field Office Accounting records into HQ’s General Ledger.
- Manage the development of and adherence to agreed-upon controls around fixed asset replacement and tracking between the Accounting and IS departments, as well as the process of global inventory.
- Lead the Finance team through external Financial Statement Audit and A-133 Audit.
- Evaluate changes in IRS Form 990 Reporting Requirements and lead IJM in the process of completing the 990.
- Maintain an understanding of IJM’s activities in order to accurately report on the IRS Form 990 and to accurately reflect the activities on the Financial Statements; and.
- Create, review, and update estimates and allocations used by IJM while also evaluating proper application of Joint Costing methodologies.
- Contribute significantly to the design and implementation of the ERP system as it relates to Financial Systems and their integration with other internal systems.
- Ensure Accounting Systems are supporting the organization well.
- Coordinate with Sr. Director of Accounting any adjustments needed in tracking of financial data;
- Lead Month End and Year End Close; and.
- Utilize resources to implement changes that increase efficiency of departmental processes.
- Review expenses for compliance with Organizational Policies and applicable laws.
- Continuously evaluate the internal controls of the organization, proposing and implementing changes as necessary.
- Provide oversight for training of new employees on IJM Finance Policies; and.
- Lead annual update of HQ Finance Manual.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s Degree in Accounting and CPA.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in general ledger accounting for an international organization with multiple locations (consolidated entities), projects, and other required fields and 5 years management experience.
- Minimum 2 years involvement with an NGO (audit, accounting, board membership, etc.).
- Proven ability to track entries into a sophisticated electronic financial system, meeting all related deadlines; significant experience in ensuring accuracy of financial statements.
- Superior knowledge of GAAP and IRS regulations regarding 501(c)(3) organizations.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience in team building; and.
- Professional written and oral communication.
- Mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed.
- Exceptionally high level of honesty and integrity.

- Proactive ability to identify problems and coordinate solutions.
- Meticulous attention to detail; disciplined with priorities; and.
