The Asian Development Bank (ADB), is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economics Officer based in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Economics Officer will provide technical and operational support in the areas of economic analysis and monitoring, programming, and project administration.
The ADB aims for an Asia and Pacific free from poverty.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Economics Officer performs the following functions-
- Supports ADB’s country strategy and programming process for host country by assisting the Government and ADB in the assessment of the overall economic performance and development prospects.
- Assists in processing and administration of loan and technical assistance (TA) projects in the areas of public sector management, financial sector, private sector development, and statistics development.
- Assists in monitoring, analyzing and reporting on macroeconomic and financial sector developments on a regular basis, including maintenance of a comprehensive database.
- Supports the Resident Mission’s (RM) economic, thematic, and sector work. Prepares quarterly economic updates and the host country section for Asian Development Outlook. Supports the publication of RM’s Working Paper Series, undertakes economic analysis and forecasts, including maintenance of appropriate macro model for host country.
- Supports the monitoring and implementation of the Country Partnership Strategy between the Government and ADB.
- Support regular monitoring of country performance under ADB’s Performance Based Allocation Policy.
- Assists in implementation of ADB’s Private Sector Development Strategy and in monitoring ADB’s private sector investments in host country.
- Supports the RM in coordination with other development partners in the areas of macroeconomic management, financial sector operations, and private sector development.
- Participates in and organizes seminars and workshops as required to disseminate findings of relevant TAs and economic sector work supported by ADB.
- Maintains contacts with government offices, private sector organizations, academic/research institutions, international agencies and other entities to obtain operationally relevant publications and data.
- Undertakes other tasks pertaining to ADB’s operations assigned by the Country Director.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in economics and/or finance, preferably with advanced training.
- At least 8 years relevant experience in applied economic theory/quantitative methods and policy work; experience in financial sector and private sector finance would be an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, including application of quantitative methods for economic policy analysis and formulation.
- Excellent computer skills including database management and proficiency in standard econometric and statistical packages.
- Sound knowledge of fiscal reform and public expenditure issues in developing member countries (DMC).
- Knowledge of public administrative, political, development issues specific to DMC, particularly of the Ministry of Finance and other institutions involved in fiscal reforms and public sector expenditures in DMC.
- Experience in financial sector and private sector finance would be an advantage.
- Ability to liaise and work effectively with DMC government officials.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure of tight deadlines and multiple demands.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
