The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Associate Programme Management Officer based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Associate Programme Management Officer will perform the following functions-
- Provide assistance in coordination of projects/programmes on Capacity building related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Countries in the preparation of project documents, Programme Cooperation Agreements and other contractual agreements with the implementing/executive agencies:
- Assist in monitoring the implementation/execution or projects/programme activities; monitor and analyze specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions.
- Participate in survey initiatives; issues data collection tools, reviews, analyze and interpret responses, identify problems/issues and prepare preliminary recommendations.
- Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, legal instruments, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
- Participate in missions, including provision of substantive and Administrative support, data collection.
- Coordinate activities related to budget funding, programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements and preparation of related documents/reports.
- Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences and side events related to projects, including Programme Steering Committee Meetings (PSC) for the ACP MEAs Project, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics:
- Liaise with the Fund Management Officer to ensure direct payments and advance requests to executing partners and prepare project budget revisions as necessary.
- Liaise with project partners on a day-to-day basis for implementation of project activities and advise Project Manager on status of implementation.
- Perform other related administrative duties, as required e.g. operational travel programme, monitoring accounts and payments to vendors and individual contractors for services; Provide back-up to other DELC implemented projects as required, such as the African Elephant Fund, and other MEAs related projects.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, economics, management or related field.
- A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management, administration or related area.
- Familiarity with EC, UN and UNEP administrative, financial policies and procedure is an asset.
- Fluency in written and oral English is required. Working knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.
