United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Deputy Director in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Deputy Director will be responsible to supervise the strategic and transformative HR Service.
UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will perform the following functions-
- Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the strategic and transformative orientation of the Division in particular relating to workforce planning, leadership development and succession planning.
- Oversee the implementation of the People Strategy which contains the overall strategic orientation of the organization in the field of human resources management.
- Lead the annual consultation exercise with Bureaus, Divisions and Field Offices aimed at determining organizational needs in terms of skills and competencies, to identify overall staffing gaps and develop strategic approaches to mitigating the risk of a misalignment in the workforce.
- Represent the Division in discussions aimed at improving the Organization’s response to affiliated workforce.
- Lead the Division’s efforts in addressing policies and behavior in relation to gender equity, diversity and inclusion in staffing in UNHCR. Act as the main focal point between the DHRM and the Bureaus/Divisions in addressing issues related to functional clearances, certification etc.
- Liaise with the Bordeaux and Divisions on operational matters, especially as concerns emergency response, and ensure overall coordination and response within the Division.
- Supervise the Organization’s representation in the inter-agency consultative body and direct the services related to the appointment of Resident and Humanitarian Coordinators.
- Serve as Secretariat of the Senior Workforce Panning Committee, the inter-departmental body overseeing senior inter-agency appointments.
- Chair the inter-departmental committee aimed at addressing the situation of staff in need of placement or in between assignments.
- Support the Director in implementing the Division’s communication strategy.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An advanced university degree in Human Resources Management, Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related field.
- Minimum 20 years of working experience at the professional level with a minimum of 10 years in an international capacity and 7 years in managerial capacity.
- Experience in and extensive knowledge of UN policies and practices.
- Excellent drafting skills.
- Significant field experience with UN or a similar organization or similar.
- Fluency in oral and written English.
