The Amnesty International (AI) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Deputy Program Director at in London, UK. The duration of this position is of 9 months.
The Deputy Program Director at provide strategic direction, operational leadership, research and policy development and multi-disciplinary coordination across different stakeholders inside and outside the organization on AI’s global campaigns.
The Al’s global campaign is to change the lives of those suffering human rights abuses.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Deputy Program Director will perform the following functions-
- Develop and promote Global Campaign strategies and oversee implementation of activities to campaign’s objectives and priorities in accordance with the campaign’s budget and the IS operational plan in order to have effective campaigns that meet AI Strategic Goals.
- Provide leadership to all those directly supporting Global Campaign’s development and delivery across the IS, including the day to day management of a dedicated global campaigns team, to ensure the team is effectively managed.
- Provide necessary leadership to ensure that Global Campaigns is underpinned by legal analysis, necessary policies and organizational positioning.
- Review, approve and advise on documents and other campaigning materials to ensure the quality of the Global Campaign team’s output.
- Communicate effectively with all key stakeholders within and outside the AI movement about the vision, direction and milestones of global campaigns making mutual expectations clear and achievable.
- Provide overall leadership on the development and implementation of innovative research in the Global Campaigns team as well as integration of research projects in regional teams.
- Ensure that the global campaigns lead to, and is supported by, the formation of appropriate and effective partnerships with other international and local NGOs and social movements.
- Expand global campaigns take up in more countries of the global South, including by increasing take up by AI sections in the global North of issues of concern to the global south so that campaigns develop a proper global participation.
- Provide overall leadership, coordination and facilitation in campaigning and activist mobilization techniques both in the global North and the South for global campaigns.
- Undertake public representation responsibilities on behalf of AI as needed and agreed.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Knowledge of international human rights framework.
- Substantial experience developing and delivering campaign strategies at international levels; excellent understanding of strategic campaign methodologies, power/political analysis and other campaign development tools.
- Proven demonstrable and successful experience of effective project management, including preparing operational plans, with clearly set milestones and achievable targets, involving various stakeholders in the centralized hub and across various regions of the world.
- Proven experience of managing staff and managing a budget.
- Ability to precisely communicate inside the organization as well as at high level external meetings, media work and campaign occasions.
- Experience of research management and research for advocacy purposes, including field research, and of producing high quality action-oriented reports.
- Deep understanding of the activist mobilization methods, tools and techniques, both online and offline, across different parts of the world, including the Global South.
- Ability to use participatory approaches and methodologies when working with AI staff and others.
- Understanding and experience of complex partnership management involving multi-layered stakeholders coming from different parts of the world, including NGOs and social movements.
- Understanding and experiences of monitoring of implementation, campaign evaluation, impact assessment and learning.
- Strong strategic thinking capacity.
- Excellent public speaking, writing and editing skills in English, fluency in other languages highly desirable.
- Excellent political judgment skills in politically complex analyses and situations.
