The United Nations University (UNU) is currently seeking applications from the eligible appicants fro the post of Director based in Hamilton, Canada.
UNU is an international community of scholars, engaged in research, postgraduate teaching and capacity development and dissemination of knowledge in furthering the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Director performs the following functions-
- Holds responsibility for the organization and management of the Institute and its programmes.
- Responsible for guaranteeing scientific excellence through internal quality control and providing guidance and inspiration for the conduct of UNU-INWEH research activities.
- Ensure that UNU-INWEH research contributes to important policy debates within the United Nations and Member States based on a thorough understanding of global water challenges and the outcomes of the Institute’s research programme.
- Recruits and leads a world-class team of researchers; mobilize significant external funding, build partnerships with universities, think tanks, and the private sector, as well as with other parts of the UN system; and produce world-class, policy-relevant research that contributes to the resolution of global water challenges.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- PhD in the Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Economics, Ecology, Hydrology, International Development, Geography, or a related field.
- Strong background in policy-relevant research and international capacity development in the area of water, economics, environmental health, public health or related fields.
- Proven track record of significant fund-raising for international projects.
- A prominent profile in the relevant academic community.
- Demonstrated leadership in creating networks focused on water-related research domains, and developing policy-relevant research.
- Proven track record of strong, senior management experience in an academic/research institution.
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with the United Nations system, United Nations University and water-related work across the United Nations system.
- Excellent communications and drafting skills, with fluency in both oral and written English. Knowledge of other official UN languages would be an asset.
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
