World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Director in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration of this post is 2 years.
The Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, leading and managing the activities of the Service relating to the administration and smooth functioning of the operations.
The mission of WIPO is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property (IP) system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Director will perform the following functions-
- Direct the Service’s portfolio of work, exercise strategic asset management and deploy resources into value-added activities and initiatives in accordance with results-based management principles and framework as well as key performance indicators.
- Ensure that key risks are identified, assessed and managed for the provision of high quality and timely work products and customer services.
- Define, formulate and implement strategies to modernize and improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the service offered to PCT users, in particular relating to customer services, in order to strengthen the PCT’s strategic position in the international patent system.
- Direct the work of the Service’s Sections and ensure smooth interaction with other relevant units in the Organization, in particular, by developing and promoting synergies between the Processing Service, the PCT Translation Service and the PCT Information Systems Service and substantively contribute to wider organizational change.
- Conceptualize and direct projects aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of the services offered by the PCT Operations Department through business re-engineering and greater reliance on information technology, ensuring that they significantly improve service delivery, deliver business value and are implemented on time, within the allocated resources and in accordance with set targets.
- Prepare policy proposals and management reports for, and making presentations to, the Assembly of the PCT Union and other Member States meetings relevant to the PCT.
- Perform other duties as required.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree in IP, law, science, engineering or related discipline.
- A first-level university degree plus two years of relevant professional experience in addition to the years of experience mentioned below may be acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- At least 15 years of professional experience in the international patent system, including extensive experience with the PCT and specific work in relation to its implementation.
- Substantial experience in a senior level position and proven experience and ability in the management of large administrative units.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Excellent written and spoken knowledge of one and good knowledge of a second PCT publication language (one of which is English).
- Knowledge of other PCT publication languages.
