The World Health Organisation (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Director, Reproductive Health and Research based in Geneva, Switzerland.
WHO supports countries as they coordinate the efforts of multiple sectors of the government and partners – including bi- and multilaterals, funds and foundations, civil society organizations and private sector – to attain their health objectives and support their national health policies and strategies.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Director performs the following functions-
- Plays a leadership and reference role among United Nations agencies and partners in advancing sexual and reproductive health within the international development agenda.
- Develops and implements innovative approaches in sexual and reproductive health through the coordination and promotion of relevant research, the development of evidence based best practices and the provision of technical support to countries wishing to strengthen their policies and programmes and the quality and reach of their services in sexual and reproductive health.
- Supports implementation research to close the gap between science and service, and to strengthen the gender and human rights dimensions of policies and programmes.
- Provides vision and an innovative strategic, scientific and operational direction to WHO’s RHR Department as well as to the cosponsored HRP Programme.
- Develops and implements strategies, priorities, policies and operational plans for both RHR and HRP
- lead priority-setting in research by anticipating gaps in critical issues where evidence is lacking;
- Promotes and facilitate the application of research findings into sexual and reproductive health policies and programmes;
- promotes concerted action and ensure coordination with HRP cosponsors, UN agencies and other organizations active in sexual and reproductive health;
- Advises Member States, other parts of WHO, other UN agencies and other inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations on matters relating to sexual and reproductive health.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced degree in a health related field, with a post-graduate qualification in a discipline related to sexual and reproductive health, preferably at the PhD level.
- Postgraduate degree in public health.
- Broad knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and its public health aspects, including the gender and human rights dimension.
- Demonstrated research and research management talent and ability.
- Proven vision, political acumen and dynamic leadership skills.
- Strong communication skills, diplomatic skills, fundraising skills as evidenced by a strong track record.
