The Saferworld is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Funding Officer based in London, UK.
Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Funding Officer will perform the following functions-
- Ensure the funding database is kept up to date and all records of contracts and reports are accessible and accurate;
- Support the Funding team and the programme teams in the development of proposals and reports in line with high quality standards required by institutional donors;
- Ensure compliance with IATI (International Aid Transparency Initiative) requirements for publication of data on project funding and its regular update;
- Organise and coordinate agenda discussions for the weekly Funding team meetings and other team events;
- Support the Head of Funding in the management of team tasks and research tasks as background to the preparation of fundraising materials;
- Ensure that finance and programme teams are aware of grant requirements and systems put into place to ensure these are adhered to;
- Work closely with funding and programme teams to set up and maintain systems for effective fundraising and grant tracking.
- Research the priorities of new and existing donors and keep up-to-date with funding opportunities in grant giving organisations, including multilateral donors, governments, trusts and foundations and major donors. This includes both daily/weekly research tasks for existing donors and longer-term research into donor funding strategies;
- Work with colleagues across the Funding team and the organisation to support the development of effective fundraising proposals and reports to be submitted to our institutional donors;
- Contribute new ideas for fundraising and identify suitable funding initiatives, calls for proposals etc.;
- Contribute to the development of the Funding strategy and to the identification of programme funding needs that support the delivery of Saferworld’s strategic plan, including research on donor engagement strategies;
- Keep up-to-date with new fundraising developments through networking internally and in the sector, attending events and reading relevant charity reports.
- Work closely with the communications team to raise the awareness of our work among key donors and ensure the fundraising and communications information on Saferworld’s website is up to date;
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A Bachelors’ degree or relevant experience in the third sector.
- A minimum of one year of fundraising experience and proven track record of success with fundraising tasks
- Good understanding and experience of the fundraising environment, the principles of fundraising and the challenges of working within the charity sector.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and work well under pressure
- Ability to plan and work within agreed timeframes for complex tasks
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to understand and generate budgets
- High standard of computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Ability to be an effective part of the fundraising team and contribute to improving its effectiveness across the organisation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff based in different countries and cultural contexts
