World Vision (WV) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Operations Director in Herat, Afghanistan. The duration for the post is of 1 – 2 years.
The Operations Director will be responsible for ensuring that programs are efficiently and effectively implemented as laid out in the Country Strategy and Operational plans.

Key Jobs Responsibility
The Operations Director will perform the following functions-
- Provide leadership in the operations department’s input to WV Afghanistan’s strategic planning and innovation initiatives. Lead the process of identifying new programming directions consistent with WV Afghanistan Strategy.
- Assume a lead role in all aspects of project development, including concept paper design, and proposal preparation and ensure they meet both donor and World Vision requirements and standards.
- Ensure situation analysis, needs assessments and baselines are conducted in current and projected project areas to ensure that WV Afghanistan programming is justifiable and well designed.
- Ensure that the Afghanistan in-country program database is maintained and actively engage in other databases as and when they are developed.
- Directly supervise the work of the Operations Department staff and other direct reports.
- Coordinate the program planning processes across WV Afghanistan, ensuring integration and alignment with WV policies and other requirements.
- Lead in the development of WV program organizational documents such as zonal plans, and technical approaches, and Annual Operations Plans.
- Ensure a high level of support to Zone Managers and project staff.
- Ensure input from other national office departments and program staff during the project design process to develop appropriate projects designs and budgets.
- Ensure that strategic and implementation plans for Advocacy are developed and implemented for each program sector.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Masters degree or equivalent in related field, or a combination of relevant schooling and work experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Ability to facilitate and empower self-directed autonomous teams.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships across cultures and has cross cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Minimum 3 years in senior leadership and management positions within an NGO or UN entity, working in both relief and development.
- Computer competency including MSWord and Excel.
- Experience with Lotus Notes preferred.
- Work experience in volatile and conflict-affected context preferred.
- Knowledge of WV and its working systems is an added advantage.
