Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Private Sector Development Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Contribute to specific operational activities at all stages of the project cycle for ASA and Lending Operations, including participation in the design and development of specific project components, responsibility for costing, financing and disbursements aspects, drafting of implementation arrangements, co-financing coordination, project supervision, portfolio management activities, ICR preparation, etc.
- Under the guidance of the T&C Lead carry out substantive research and analytical tasks on a wide range of operational, country and sector issues, reviews and interprets information/data, identifies issues and recommends actions/solutions.
- Work with the Program Leaders, the T&C Leads, and other T&C team members to support the T&C GP in the Country.
- Interact with country or task team members and the client in the formulation and implementation of the Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD) and Country Partnership Frameworks (CPF); prepare sections of the SCD and CPF document and country strategy submission as input into business plans, work program agreements, mid-year and retrospective and mid-year reviews, etc.; reviews and screens relevant documents/reports for consistency with the SCD and CPF.
- Support the T&C team in the preparation of briefing material on country program/sector and project issues and follows up on portfolio issues.
- Analyze T&C/ASA and Lending projects at completion, comparing actual financial and economic results with those projected at appraisal; drafts reports or PSRs presenting key findings and lessons learned during implementation by both the borrower and the Bank.
- Coordinate and Participate as a member of T&C missions (preparation, appraisal, supervision), conducts independent discussions with client representatives on selected problems and issues identified by task managers, and participates in negotiations.
- Interact with staff and managers within the VPU/Global Practice and Cross-Cutting Solutions Areas, providing cross support; With the Lead T&C and Program Leaders liaise with the IFC Resident Representative and support collaboration with IFC and MIGA; liaise and engage with Donor organizations/Agencies and identify areas of collaboration.
- Participate in World Bank Group Country Staff meetings and other meetings organized by other GP’s.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences or other field related to development.
- 5 years of experience conducting economic, social or policy research, synthesizing findings and creating and making presentations.
- Experience in Africa; good working knowledge of the political economy of reform in Africa.
- Good knowledge of, or experience in the private sector.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Excellent communications skills, both in oral presentations and in writing papers, briefs, independent reports, presentations, etc.
- Capacity to work simultaneously on a variety of issues and tasks, independently adjusting to priorities and achieving results with agreed objectives and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with internal/external partners and promote collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.
- Detailed oriented individual with strong analytical, conceptual and evaluative skills: ability to develop and share good practices.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Strong client relationships both internally and externally.
- A strong team player.
