The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Operations Officer in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
WBG has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Operations Officer will perform the following functions-
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of the situation in all human development (health, education, community development, social protection, etc.) sub-sectors.
- Support the overall coordination of the World Bank human development operations in Papua New Guinea.
- Participate in the design, preparation, appraisal and negotiation of projects in human development.
- Participate in supervision of human development projects, including regular site visits and review of progress reports.
- Provide support to visiting human development missions, assist out-of-country staff and consultants in-between their mission.
- Contribute substantively to analytical and advisory work in human development, and provide inputs on the sector to cross-sectoral studies, Country Assistance/Partnership Strategies, government strategies, portfolio reviews, etc.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with high-level government officials, line ministries, project implementation units as well as international development partners and civil society.
- Work closely with the other staff and provide back-up and cross-support where required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- At least master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (economics, public policy, business administration, social sciences, public health management, public education management, etc.).
- At least 8 years of experience with developing and implementing human development projects.
- Previous experience with donor/multi-lateral development agency projects would be highly advantageous.
- Up-to-date knowledge and excellent understanding of HNP, social protection and/or education sector context and policies in PNG.
- Knowledge of project management, including operational, implementation support, monitoring and evaluation, procurement and financial management aspects.
- Superior client orientation, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, ability to support dialogue with high level government officials in Papua New Guinea.
- Excellent analytical skills and track record of teamwork and ability to produce high-quality results and outputs under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Exemplary problem-solving skills; able to identify problems and implement corrective processes.
- Ability to contribute ideas and demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural teams and environment.
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including excellent speaking and writing skills in English.
- Knowledge of Tok Piksin would be strongly desirable.
- Strong computer skills.
