TechnoServe is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Livestock Productions & Productivity Expert in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Livestock Productions & Productivity Expert will perform the following functions-
- Lead and oversee implementation of livestock intervention strategies, as related to the 4 sub-sectors (Beef, Poultry, Dairy and Animal feeds).
- Lead promotion and adoption of suitable and sustainable livestock production practices across different operating contexts.
- Provide timely advice and guidance on all matters related to increasing livestock productivity to ensure project can be developed and implemented according to plan.
- Identify major livestock production constraints and propose ideas to address said constraints.
- Work with technical team and relevant partners to develop capacity development/training programmes for farmers on improved practices and animal husbandry.
- Lead small team of technical experts to build on high quality analysis of key markets, test and scale up market solutions, working with key stakeholders.
- Develop intervention plans, work plans and guidelines for technical staff and implementing partners.
- Develop and/or assist in refining the solid business case for identified market interventions.
- Support implementation of strategies to promote and engage vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth in farmer productivity, market participation and increased wealth creation activities.
- Monitor all project activities and make recommendations for modification, improvement or introduction of new activities.
- Prepare seasonal calendar of livestock related activities, working closely with technical team and project partners.
- Collect regular industry data across the value chain(s).
- Respond and solve local technical issues where possible and report on-going problems such as infrastructure requirements, outbreak of diseases, access to finance, drought risk, etc.
- Assist field staff in conducting appropriate/required field research and analysis.
- Prepare reports.
- In collaboration with M&E unit (or independently when required), undertake regular visits to the project area to develop mechanisms for participatory monitoring of the project activities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- A Master’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Business and/or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years’ experience in Agricultural value chain development, with proven track record in developing the livestock industry in Zimbabwe.
- Demonstrated experience implementing complex and large donor funded programmes for funders like DFID, USAID, EU and the World Bank Group.
- Proven track record improving business outcomes for SMEs/farmers.
- Demonstrated experience working in or with the Private Sector.
- Ability to structure and manage complex tasks; including experience in work planning and activity budgeting.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, specifically Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint Superior writing skills.
- Ability to develop well written, cohesive reports that are responsive to the donors’ needs.
- Experience living and working in sub-Saharan Africa a distinct advantage, ideally with experience working in Zimbabwe.
