The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Coordination Officer based in Nairobi, Kenya.
The UNON serves as the representative office of the Secretary-General in Nairobi and performs representation and liaison functions with permanent missions, the host-country and other Governments, and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations in Nairobi, as well as other organizations of the United Nations system in Kenya.
Key Job Responsibilities
The coordination Officer will perform the following functions-
- Development of a comprehensive, UN system-wide HIV prevention, care and support programme in Kenya and ensure compliance with the UN Policy on HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
- Develop, coordinate, implement and monitor a comprehensive HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention strategy, including induction, sensitization and peer education training for UN system in Kenya in accordance with UN policy on HIV
- Offer clinical and counselling support to staff living with HIV and provide linkage with health facilities offering treatment to UN staff living HIV and monitor the standards of care provided.
- Monitoring the standards and protocols used for management of UN staff and dependents living with HIV/AIDS and clinical follow-up of cases.
- Participate in preparedness and response activities to infectious disease outbreaks that may emerge at the duty station from time to time
- Develop and implement a strategy for HIV/AIDS training on a continuous basis and oversee the availability of prevention commodities in all work sites in Kenya in line with the UN policy on HIV/AIDS.
- Establish contacts and networks inside and outside the UN in Kenya to promote collaboration and facilitate implementation of a comprehensive HIV/AIDS strategy and services to UN staff members and their families.
- Lead and coordinate the HIV testing and counselling for all the UN staff members in Kenya and ensure regular and continuous services are available to staff members and their families.
- Offer technical support to all UN agencies in Kenya on the implementation of a sustainable workplace HIV/AIDS program and on mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
- Participate in the Joint UN Team on AIDS meetings and act as the focal point for workplace HIV/AIDS programs.
- Prepare progress and evaluation reports of the implementation of UN personnel policy on HIV/AIDS in Kenya, the UN Learning Strategy on HIV/AIDS and develop and maintain a monitoring and evaluation program
- Undertake clinical consultations, UN medical examinations for the purpose of clearance for fitness to work or travel and medical reviews for staff members on an ongoing basis
- Reach out to staff on issues of staff wellness, discrimination in the workplace, mental health, disability and substance abuse.
- Undertake any additional assignments as requested by the Chief, UN Joint Medical Service from time to time.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Basic degree Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery or equivalent;
- Advanced university degree or its equivalent in medicine, medical science or public health Sciences;
- Experience of working in the UN will be an added advantage;
- At least 5 years of progressive experience focusing on clinical and workplace implementation of national and/or international HIV/AIDS prevention programmes;
- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in public health, HIV/AIDS programming and clinical work is required. Proven ability to develop and offer leadership, advocacy, tracking, monitoring and evaluation of HIV will be an added advantage
- Experience working in an occupational health setting/workplace environment is highly desirable; Knowledge of current issues and policies relating to HIV/AIDS (global and local) and participation in Training of Trainers courses will be an added advantage;
- English and French are the two official working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
