United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of TA Education in Emergencies Working Group Nigeria in Abuja, Nigeria.
The TA Education in Emergencies Working Group Nigeria will be responsible to provide leadership and facilitate the processes that will ensure a well-coordinated, strategic, adequate, coherent, and effective response by participants in the EiEWGN.
UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.
Key Jobs Responsibility
The TA Education in Emergencies Working Group Nigeria will be responsible for the following functions-
- Strengthen pre-existing sectoral coordination through increased predictability and accountability.
- Build complementarily of partner actions: avoiding duplication and gaps.
- Ensure adequate resources are mobilized and are equitably allocated for the effective functioning of the Sector Working Group and its response.
- Effective and comprehensive integration of relevant cross-cutting issues, including age, gender, environment and HIV/AIDS.
- Maintain flexibility within the Sector Working Group to respond to changes in the operating environment, evolving requirements, capacities and participation.
- Effectively use and transfer information to, from and between Sector Working Group participants and other stakeholders.
- Interact with other Sector Working Groups (including through inter-sector coordination fora), humanitarian actors, government counterparts, and relevant authorities for operational planning, engagement and active contribution of operational partners.
- Be accountable to the affected population through effective and inclusive consultative and feedback mechanisms.
- Monitor performance of the core Sector Working Group functions.
- Ensure effective communication, reporting, engagement and coordination between national and State level.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced University degree in Education or Social Science.
- A first university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.
- At least 8 years progressively responsible humanitarian work experience with UN and/or NGO, including programme management and/or coordination in the first phase of a major emergency response relevant to the Sector Working Group.
- Formal training in cluster coordination is an advantage.
- Understanding key technical issues for the Sector Working group sufficiently well enough to be able to: engage with Sector Working Group participants; make full use of their experience and knowledge; guide strategy and plans; communicate and advocate on important issues.
- Understanding the rationale behind Humanitarian Reform, its main components and recent developments including the Transformative Agenda.
- Understanding uses and adapts the tools, mechanisms and processes developed as part of Humanitarian Reform.
- Demonstrated commitment to Humanitarian Principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to Principles of Partnership.
- Communications, works and networks effectively with a wide range of people to reach broad consensus on a well-coordinated response, and demonstrates leadership where required.
- Ability to thinks and acts strategically and ensures that cluster activities are prioritized and aligned within an agreed strategy.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Sector Working Grop and independence from employing organization.
- Ability to Builds motivates and leads the Sector Working Group coordination team.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
