Action Against Hunger are looking for a Self-motivated, dynamic and pro-active individuals as a Senior Media and Communications Officer with a substantial track record in media relations to join our vibrant Fundraising & Communications team in the UK for an 8-month maternity cover.
Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger, works to save the lives of malnourished children while providing communities with sustainable access to safe water and long-term solutions to hunger.
Key Job Responsibilities
Working in close collaboration with other Action Against Hunger communication teams and programmes worldwide, the job holder will help develop and drive a range of communication projects aimed at increasing Action Against Hunger’s brand recognition and media exposure.
The Key jobs responsibilities include:
- To deliver communication team action plans and media relations output for emergencies, silent crises and other breaking international news stories, steering the communications response across media and digital channels and providing relevant content / briefing other teams on Action Against Hunger’s response.
- To develop and manage media relationships including journalists across all media (print, broadcast and online).
- To plan and deliver designated field trips with UK media and for other communications purposes. (Must be able to travel abroad for short periods of time where necessary and occasionally at short notice)
- To produce and issue excellent written materials as well as high-quality visual and audio outputs. This will involve liaising with colleagues at HQ and national level on a regular basis as well as steering communications outputs across all relevant channels including our website. It will also include working with and supporting colleagues to maximise opportunities for building our profile and maximizing media exposure.
- To develop and engage a community of digital supporters by managing ACF-UK’s social media strategy and delivering ACF-UK’s social media plan of action.
- To maximise the success of corporate partnerships, events and others fundraising activities through strong and efficient PR, media and social networking plans of action.
- To find innovative ways to communicate issues relating to our work and programmes in the UK media.
- To act as Action Against Hunger’s official external spokespersons on emergencies, campaigns and key projects as agreed with the Head of Communications, and brief other Action Against Hunger spokespeople where required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have educated to a degree level or equivalent.
Experience
- Excellent level of written and verbal communications skills in English.
- Strong track record of using traditional and digital media to achieve results.
- Proven experience proactively securing key media coverage in national press and/or of working as a journalist.
- Experience in acting as the lead contact for news journalists and/or other stakeholders and acting as spokesperson on behalf of an organisation.
- Proven experience in dealing with difficult questions and problems with the ability to turn around critiques and criticisms, and exercising sound judgement under pressure.
