The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economist in Yangon, Myanmar.
WBG has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Economist will perform the following functions-
- Provide technical assistance to support the collection and compilation of better data in Myanmar, including household survey data and price data.
- Provide technical assistance to government counterparts in the translation of analysis into program and policy changes; support and monitor program and policy implementation.
- Respond to internal and external requests for “rapid response” analytical services by synthesizing existing sources of knowledge, and conducting surface level analytics.
- Implement research projects and analytic tasks; ensure quality assurance of the research and analytical outputs.
- Provide research and analytical support for the Poverty & Equity GP in other country programs as requested.
- Develop policy output (e.g., reports, briefs and presentations) that provide policy options and recommendations to clients based on research findings and global learning.
- Participate in policy dialogue events to sharing research findings and discussion policy solutions; represent the team at public events as requested.
- Supporting program strategic planning activities, with a focus on preparations for the team’s research agenda, and the development of analytical work plans.
- Supporting monitoring and evaluation activities, including regular contribution to program and trust fund reporting.
- Supervising and sometimes participating in the preparation and delivery of training and presentations on poverty and inequality topics.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in economics, public policy or a related fields with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in designing and implementing household surveys is a key asset.
- Proven track record of working with data collection from pilot to entry and analysis.
- Experience in supporting the improvement of statistics, including but not limited to price and social statistics, is a key asset.
- Excellent quantitative and analytical background with a proven record of high quality analytical work, particularly related to poverty, inequality, and/or labor issues.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality policy-relevant analytical products within tight deadlines and budgets.
- Extensive knowledge of household surveys, and other micro- and macro-economic data.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation, and ability to work with diverse people.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, and to listen and integrate ideas from varied sources, governments, NGOs and donors.
- Ability to work with staff from all levels, and to mentor, coach and motivate, more junior staff.
- Myanmar language skills are strongly preferred, excellent non-Myanmar candidates are also encouraged to apply.
