The Room to Read is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Program Manager, Literacy, based in New Delhi, India.
The primary duties of Program Manager are supporting Room to Read’s South Asia Country Office teams (Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka) in contextualizing new worldwide Literacy program implementation packages for effective use, with a specialization in providing teacher and librarian training and professional development.
The Room to Read is a non-governmental, non-religious and work with many local NGOs and community based organizations to implement the programs.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Program Manager will perform the following functions-
- Contribute to the ongoing development and revisions of the worldwide programmatic frameworks for the Literacy program
- Review and occasionally develop global materials; for example teacher training session plans, literacy scope-and-sequence, teachers’ guides, librarian manuals, reading activity resources for library-based reading
- Work with regional counterparts from Global Literacy Team
- Provide high level review and feedback on revised and new global materials; identify areas for improvement
- Collect and provide detailed feedback on recommended revisions based on Country Office experiences
- Work with Room to Read country team members to develop their skills in understanding literacy development from both a theoretical and practical perspective, as well as Room to Read’s overall Literacy program and strategy
- Adapting global session plans and power point materials for effective teacher and librarian trainings
- Developing country-specific video material for use in trainings and teacher/librarian support
- Adapting global manuals and observation tools to ensure clear roles and responsibilities of Room to Read staff and effective program implementation
- Creating new teacher’s guides and pupil books
- Work with Country Office Program Managers to prepare country office program staff in the use of contextualized materials
- Work with country office program staff, regional counterparts, and Research, Monitoring and Evaluation staff to determine next steps for Literacy program implementation and improvement based on monitoring evaluation data
- Provide input into business development opportunities as well as communication with the fundraising team as related to donor reporting on design and technical assistance activities
- Represent Room to Read and the Literacy team internally and externally to message our work and advocate for our programs
- Collaborate meaningfully with regional counterparts in Literacy and Operations teams to ensure coordinated support to country teams
- Participate in interviewing and training of new Global Literacy team staff
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, e.g., Education or related development sector; Master’s degree strongly preferred
- Excellent knowledge of adult learning methodologies and best practices in delivering effective trainings
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of technical work in reading/literacy at the primary stage
- Prior experience living and/or working in South Asia
- Experience developing curriculum and/or educational learning materials for students or teachers
- Experience leading teacher trainings and professional development activities, preferably utilizing video
- A minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience
- Significant experience in one or more South Asia country including visiting primary classrooms and working with teachers and children around issues of learning
- Prior experience as a primary-grade teacher
- Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
- Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Candidate located in South Asia
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally
