The Green Climate Fund (the Fund) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Environmental Specialist in Songdo, Republic of Korea. The duration for this position is of Three year.
The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for providing guidance on matters related to the environmental and social safeguards of the Fund, especially for the accreditation process and the project and programme approval process.
The Fund is a new multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Environmental Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Providing leadership in the evaluation, improvement and dissemination of GCF’s environmental and social safeguards and procedures/guidance notes.
- Promoting internal communication and teamwork in related
- Informing and assisting entities interested in accreditation to the Fund with matters related to
- Carrying out institutional assessment of accreditation applications in relation to ESS and contributing to the capacity building of IEs in ESS.
- Participating to the team’s effort to develop the network of accredited entities.
- Proactively advising and assisting entities interested in accreditation on the Fund’s ESS standards, especially those benefiting from support from the Fund for accreditation.
- Providing guidance to entities to prepare Environmental and Social Management Plans.
- Participating in the compliance review of projects and programmers funding proposals in accordance with the Fund’s environmental and social safeguards.
- Participating in the compliance review of entities in accordance with the Fund’s environmental and social safeguards.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Masters) in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of working experience in similar organizations.
- Participation as an Environment Specialist in project due diligence and implementation.
- Experience in private sector operations will be an added advantage.
- Experience in reviewing project proposals and working on ESS policies for International Finance Institutions.
- Experience or familiarity with development and preparation of environmental and social management plans will be an added advantage.
- International working experience in developing regions.
- Demonstrated competencies in mentoring, coaching and advising diverse staff, and capacity to develop and nurture partnerships, collaboration and team work.
- Good judgment combined with good vision, in order to provide Senior Management and operational staff with reliable information and quality advice.
- Corporate perspective with ability to understand and balance operational issues with management priorities and risk concerns.
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
