The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Manager based in Paris, France.
UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Programme Manager will perform the following functions-
- Project Management:
- Develop, implement and evaluate efficient lighting programme(s) and associated activities under the Enlighten initiative website;
- Review documents and reports;
- Identify problems and issues to be addressed and initiate corrective actions;
- Liaise with relevant parties; ensure follow-up actions;
- Generate survey initiatives; review, analyze and interpret responses;
- Identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions;
- Co-ordinate and contribute substantive input to consultative and other meetings, conferences, and workshops;
- Co-ordinate the work of the various expert taskforces and their respective work plans;
- Lead and/or participate in missions;
- Manage and coordinate outreach activities;
- Oversee the design and conduct training workshops and seminars;
- Coordinate activities related to budget and funding and collaborate in the preparation of documents and reports;
- Develop reports, publications and other written materials that present results of UNEP’s work and that advance the state of knowledge in the efficient lighting sector.
- Development and prospective activities:
- Coordinate policy development in the area of energy efficient lighting analysis of issues and trends, preparation of impact evaluation or management of relevant studies;
- Manage prospective opportunities;
- Establish collaboration and partnerships with private sector companies, international agencies and other key officials at all levels globally and in target countries.
- Co-ordination with the UNEP Collaborating Centre – Global Efficient Lighting Centre (GELC), Beijing:
- Suggest areas of GELC work activity; analyze results and present information gathered from diverse sources;
- Monitor the range of GELC programme activities assist with the co-ordination of efforts, assess the effectiveness of performance, and address areas of unfulfilled operation;
- Monitor quality of written outputs from GELC and consultants; collaborate in GELC fundraising and financial sustainability efforts.
- Perform any other related duties assigned.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business, economics, law, political science, engineering science or related area is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the sustainability and/or energy efficiency fields with programme management is required.
- Practical experience related to the promotion of market transformation to energy efficient technologies globally and in developing and emerging countries is desirable.
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
- Working knowledge of French is desirable.
- Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
- Demonstrated competence in managing clean energy initiatives.
- Ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines.
