The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Health Specialist based in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The WBG is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for development solutions.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Health Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Supporting the GoSL and related stakeholders with hands-on technical and operational assistance on the implementation of all Bank-financed activities. This includes, but is not limited to the EERP, RCHP2, a new health project and West Africa Regional Disease Surveillance and Response project (the latter two project are under preparation).
- Conducting periodic site visits to supervise implementation of ongoing projects and assist with the appraisal of the new projects.
- Representing the World Bank in Government and donor partner planning and coordination meetings as well as in working groups for the Health sector and reporting to the Bank team.
- Supporting analytical work to support ongoing and new projects and stand-alone tasks. This includes the recently initiated regional analytical work on “West Africa Post-Ebola Health Systems Strengthening” that focuses on fiscal space analysis, health financing for the country’s investment plan, strengthening of human resources for health and disease surveillance.
- Participating in the design and implementation of appropriate analytical work on, for example, critical implementation challenges as needed.
- Developing, writing and disseminating case studies and papers on lessons learned with the governments, Bank staff, and international partners, and providing regular updates on health sector development and relevant social economic context.
- Participating in, and supporting training and workshops as needed.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An advanced degree in medicine or relevant Social Sciences (Health, Economics, Public Health, Business Administration or related Social Sciences), and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experiences with strong track record in leading the design and implementation of large scale health systems strengthening and/or public health projects preferably in Sub-Saharan African countries.
- Knowledge and/or experience in designing and implementing results-based financing mechanisms and broader health financing in developing countries will be an asset.
- Knowledge of the preparation and supervision support of IDA/IBRD Credits, Loans, and/or Trust Funds, or similar experience from other multilateral development institutions.
- Proven analytical skills, excellent writing ability, and written and oral communications skills.
- Experience in international development, and experience working in a multilateral institution will be an asset.
- Strong diplomatic and client-engagement skills to work with Sierra Leonean counterparts, and proven success working both as a team member and as a team leader.
- Proactive and result-focused work style with strong problem-solving capabilities.
