World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of IT Architecture Specialist in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration for the post is of 1 year.
The mission of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The IT Architecture Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Advocate and augment the principles of business and IT and more specifically technology architecture (TA) strategies.
- Analyze enterprise business context (trends and business strategy) to derive technical architecture.
- Analyze the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
- Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.
- “Sell” the enterprise architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results.
- Define the principles that guide technology decisions for the enterprise.
- Design and lead the implementation of a TA based on business requirements and IT strategies, as well as to rectify gaps and pain points within the current state.
- Assist with designing the governance activities associated with ensuring TA compliance.
- Oversee or consult on technical architecture (for example, systems and networks) implementation and modification activities (for example, projects), particularly for new and/or shared infrastructure solutions.
- Oversee and facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations.
- Consult on application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to the technical architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate project needs.
- Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures and culture) and financial impact of the TA.
- Document necessary technical architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- An advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
- Industry certifications covering TOGAF, or equivalent.
- Industry certifications covering ITIL Service Management.
- Good technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of ICT technology standards, frameworks and best practices.
- Strong skills in at least two IT disciplines in a client/server or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment, including technical architecture, network design, application development, middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations.
- Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture.
- Understanding of network architecture.
- Understanding of SOA and object-oriented analysis and design.

- Ability to understand the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term perspectives of situations.
- Ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architecture alternatives.
- Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
- Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
- Essential: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc). MS SharePoint, Network technology (data/video/voice), Virtualization Foundational hardware and software.
- A minimum of 7 years IT experience which at least 3 years at the international level and 5 years focused on IT technology architecture.
- Experience in at least two IT disciplines in a client/server or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and Visio to create documents, presentations, and detailed drawings. Experience in working across geographic and cultural boundaries.
- Extensive experience in working across multiple time zones without the need for face to face meetings.
- Expert knowledge of English is required.
- Knowledge of French would be an asset.
