The Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Information Technology Manager. The position will be based in New York, USA.
The IT manager takes the lead in overseeing the smooth operation of all IT functions for PHR’s U.S. and international locations including servers, network, storage, databases, and infrastructure software and information security.
PHR strives to empower and support local communities in documenting and preventing human rights violations.
Key Job Responsibilities
The IT Manager will perform the following functions-
- Along with the director of finance and administration, provides strategic direction of the IT department
- Builds and maintains close working relationships with PHR staff, vendors, and consultants
- Monitors trends and advancements in the industry and makes recommendations about software and hardware upgrades to enhance PHR’s effectiveness
- Reviews all technology equipment and software purchases, taking the lead for all major technology initiatives
- Develops technology improvement proposals and budget recommendations for consideration in the organization’s fiscal year budget process
- Drafts policies and procedures for technology related protocols, both technical and for staff, collaborating as appropriate with relevant departments
- Ensures compliance with all software license agreements and update software, including new versions and patches, as appropriate and necessary
- Establishes robust security measures to protect systems, confidential access, and individual’s files
- Creates and maintains a reliable system for information back-up including monthly and annual archives as well as off-site information on a weekly basis
- Where appropriate (i.e. accounting, fundraising and contact databases) establishes special back-up protocol to ensure access to reliable data at all times
- Establishes a proactive maintenance system for all hardware, especially printers
- Responds to requests for new technology as needs and opportunities arise Sets up new users, ensuring orientation training and an introduction to PHR’s systems
- Provides training as necessary for significant software upgrades as well as new installations Carries out other related duties as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelors’ degree, preferably in computer science and at least seven years of experience
- Substantial expertise and demonstrated experience with a vast array of network and personal computer software and equipment Strong commitment to support colleagues’ IT needs, providing patient, thorough, and timely follow-through
- Proven track record in network systems design; certification in PHR’s systems a plus
- Ability to analyze needs of a growing and geographically dispersed non-profit and expand its computing capabilities while troubleshooting ALL technology challenges
- Understanding of internet and new media technologies
- Adept in managing multiple projects and shifting priorities as necessary Solid business software application skills
- Ability to analyze and assimilate information across a broad spectrum Self-starter, resourceful in researching multiple potential solutions, and strong analytical skills to assess best approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prepare technical documentation for system design as well as working policies and procedures for users Effective in creating curricula, documenting supporting reference material, and delivering training programs for users
- Appreciation of the important role information technology contributes to our human rights work
