Applications are invited by World Health Organizaion (WHO) for the vacancy of Communication Officer. Location of this job will be based in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Minimum Education:
- Masters
- Mass Communication, Journalism and International Relations
- 5 Years(5 years As an Information/Communication Officer with a UN agency or diplomatic mission and/or working experience with a prominent English-language newspaper))
Under oversight of the Representative of the World Health Organization in Pakistan and the Emergency Coordinator of the Polio Team the Communication Officer will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
1. To contribute to the development of a media and communications strategy of the PEI, in collaboration with UNICEF the lead partner for PEI communication strategy;
2. To establish and maintain a network of media contacts to disseminate relevant media products.
3. To draft regular proposals for media activities to support WHO
4. To develop key WHO messages for integration in all media communication
5. To respond to questions and requests for information, acting as focal point to provide information, research material and publications to the public in consultation with the Communication/Partnership Officer.
6. In consultation with the Medical Officer and WHO Representative, identify and prioritize topics within the work of PEI that should be promoted through media communications and organize all the media events such as press briefings, journalists’ trips, interviews, photo exhibits, etc,
7. In collaboration with the Training Officer/ WHO Pakistan Communications staff, develop country specific training materials and communication guidelines for WHO staff working in PEI and ensure that these are incorporated in WHO training curricula
8. To organize and facilitate communication capacity building training programmes for the field staff on how to reach out to and work effectively with the media to promote the WHO role in PEI
9. To draft and coordinate inputs to the PEI websites.
10. To provide regular articles and information to the Editor for partner agencies in PEI including UNICEF
Required Skills
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Excellent command of the English language
- Excellent report writing and editing skills
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, proficiency in Publisher and Corel Draw an advantage
