Africa Technology and Transparency Initiative (ATTI) seeks Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) followed by Full Proposal (from selected applicants) from organizations that use technology as an essential component for providing people with access to credible information about government actions and influence in Africa. Organizations that can look forward to the funding from ATTI can be the ones that are looking for support towards the development of technology platforms used in promoting transparency and accountability or the organizations that are using technology platforms for disseminating information for the promotion of transparency and accountability.
The process for fund approval involves two steps viz LOI and Full Proposal
Step 1: Letter of Inquiry
An organization interested in applying for a grant needs first to send a brief letter of inquiry (LOI). Please note that ATTI does not accept unsolicited grant proposals and organizations that submit unsolicited proposals will receive notification directing them to first submit a letter of inquiry.
Organizations that best match ATTI’s grant making guidelines and funding criteria will be invited to submit a full proposal. Letters of inquiry may be submitted at any time. The letter of inquiry shall be reviewed, and within 30 days, ATTI will provide its response (either declining or requesting a full proposal).
Step 2: Full proposal
A complete proposal consists of the grant application form, a project proposal narrative and a budget.
Project proposal narrative: ATTI does not require applicants to fill in a specific format for project proposals and budgets. The project proposal narrative should however include mission and problem analysis, description and objectives of activities to be financed; quantifiable indicators connected with the activities and objectives, method of implementation, period within which the activities will take place, objectives of the applicant organization and an organizational chart.
Project Budget: In your budget, the applicant needs to furnish the overall budget for the entire project that it is seeking funding for, the requested ATTI grant, own income sources, and contributions by other donors, specified per year.
Applicants who are invited to submit proposals can do so at any time. The review board meets every quarter to make a final decision on whom to fund (typically January, April, July and October). The review process for grantees takes on average about 8 weeks. Please submit your proposal at least 8 weeks before the month in which you would like to be considered for funding (e.g. if you would like your proposal to be considered for funding in March, please submit your proposal by February 1st).
