The Gulf Future Fund is the agency working for cause of marine restoration, strengthening of local organizing and public education, and public health in the Gulf Coast. Unified Action Plan for a Healthy Gulf is the program initiated by the Gulf Future Fund that addresses issues related to marine and coastal restoration, public health, etc. The main aim of the whole program is to make the Gulf Coast a safe region. This program focuses on providing resources to support all the activities that help in achieving the goals of Gulf Future Action Plan.
Priority Areas of Funding
The Gulf Future Fund supports projects that strengthen and amplify local organizing, public education and movement building, and that address the impacts of the BP oil drilling disaster.
The Gulf Future Fund considers only those proposals that are developed by or in collaboration with Gulf Coast communities to engage in the work of the Gulf Future Coalition and addresses one or more of the following issues:
- Marine Restoration and Resiliency
- Coastal Restoration and Resiliency
- Community Recovery and Resiliency
- Public Health
Projects may use any number of strategies, including but not limited to community education, grassroots organizing, advocacy, policy development, media work and public interest education. Special attention is given to projects that address one or more of the following:
Influencing Public Policy & Working with Governments
- Shared Learning
- Collective Advocacy and Education
- Networking & Collaboration
- Leadership Development
- Accountability
- Civic Engagement
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must endorse the Gulf Future Action Plan
- Geographic Restrictions – focuses on the restoration and revitalization of impacted areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas.
- Organizations must be grassroots based. Organizations with 501(C)(3) tax status are encouraged to apply for funding.
- The proposal must outline how the project meets the grant criteria, how the objectives will be met, and a project budget
Last date for submitting the application is September 15, 2011. Decisions will be announced in October 1, 2011. Funds will be disbursed to grantees no later than October 15, 2011.
