The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Malawi is accepting Concept Notes for Improved Forest Management for Sustainable Livelihoods Program Phase II. The primary objective of the program is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and the conservation of forests in Malawi. The grantee should implement project activities that contribute towards the improvement of livelihoods of forest dependent communities through the participatory management of forests both in forest reserves and on customary land.
- Lot 1: To improve forest sector stakeholder coordination, advocacy and monitoring.
- Lot 2: To support commercialization of small-scale forestry development through creating a more conducive framework for private forestry.
Grant request can be made in between €1,200,000 and €1,300,000 which can be 50% to 90% of the total eligible cost of the action. The initial planned duration of an action must be at least 24 months and at most 36 months.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be legal person in specific type of organization.
- The specific type of organization can be non-governmental organizations, private companies, local authorities, international (inter-governmental) organizations as defined by Article 43 of the Implementing Rules to the EC Financial Regulation.
- Applicant organization must be established in a Member State of the European Union or be nationals of a Member State of the European Union, official EU candidate countries, countries of the European Economic Area, an ACP state or a Least Developed Country as specified in the latest OECD-DAC list of Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient countries. This obligation does not apply to international organizations.
- Applicant must be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated (ies), not acting as an intermediary.
- Applicants must have stable and sufficient sources of finance to ensure the continuity of their organization throughout the project and to play a part in financing it.
- Either the applicant, co-applicant or affiliated entity must have a presence in Malawi.
- Applicant must have a sufficient documented experience in the related field of actions being proposed.
- Applicant must be able to demonstrate capacity to manage large scale activity corresponding to the size of the project for which a grant is requested.
