Amnesty International – USA is seeking nominations for the Ginetta Sagan Award to honor women who have worked for protecting the liberty and freedom of women and children in areas where there is widespread violation of human rights. The award has been named after late Ginetta Sagan, who was a human rights activist and a recipient of the 1996 Presidential Medal of Freedom. The award is an opportunity to recognize the achievement of such women who have put their own lives at risk to promote human rights of other women and children. It will also provide protection and ensure that the recipient is able to work and live freely as there will be able to receive international attention and recognition due to the Award. It also raises the international concern towards violations happening in their areas and brings about increased security from global advocacy groups and other stakeholders. The Ginetta Sagan Fund carries a cash award of US $10,000 which is given out at the Annual General Meeting of the Amnesty International – USA, held every year.
The nomination form can be downloaded from the Amnesty International’s website. The last date to submit nominations is 1 October 2009. For more information, visit this link.
