Education Organization Background:
Hamdam Development Organization (HDO) was established on 19th May 1994. Some youngster played an imported role to lay the foundation of HDO in which Abdul Ghafoor and Sajida Parveen & other have contributed the most. The basic goal to establish HDO is to initiate and encourage collective efforts to address the problems faced by the women & children of this area. Initially the focus of organization was on charity bases programs i.e. vocational training, adult education, lacquer wood works development, maternal & child health care center, sanitation and environment awareness campaign, blood donation, text books and uniforms for needy people and sports & recreational activities. Currently HDO expanded its advocacy work on issues like women and child rights. Be it an issue of women and child rights, HDO has undertaken numerous policy research works and awareness campaign to build public opinion and held demonstrations to join forces with other civil society organizations on several issues around.
Objectives:
- To provide medical, psychological and social rehabilitation to torture of victims and their families.
- To contribute towards well being and protection of children through skill development, health, education and advocacy interventions.
- To ensure the participation of women practically in economic, social and political level.
- To promote prevention, care and treatment of HIV & AIDS.
- To support education and services about reproductive health.
- To extend humanitarian assistance to those affected by disaster or displacement.
- To arrange free legal aid to help the women & children legally.
1) Maternal & Child Health Care Center- NATPOW
A project titled “Maternal & Child Health Care Center” was started with the assistance of National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) Islamabad, at village Darbar Wali, union council Mandhran Kalan, District D.I.Khan, for the duration of one year. In this project community were facilitated about maternal and child healthcare, family planning methods and also provided pills, condoms, IUDs and medicines. Currently, the center is functional.
2) Vocational & Adult Literacy Centre- Embassy of JAPAN
A project titled “Vocational & Adult Literacy Centre” was started with the assistance of Embassy of Japan, Islamabad in village Darbar Wali, union council Mandhran Kalan, District D.I.Khan, for the duration of one year. The beneficiaries of this project were exactly selected 105 girls were provided with vocational training and adult literacy as well. This program has given direct benefit to 105 girls. Currently, the center is functional.
3) Lacquer Wood Works Development Centre- TVO
A project titled “Lacquer Wood Works Development Centre” was started with the assistance of Trust for Voluntary Organizations (TVO) Islamabad, for the duration of one year. Through this project 40 students were trained in traditional art “lacquer wood works”, adult literacy and micro credit facility for selected trainees and held exhibitions for work of six master craftsmen and trainee.
4) Child Rights Awareness Program- NCCR
An awareness campaign titled “Child Rights Awareness Program” was fulfilled with the assistance of NGOs Coalition on the Child Rights (NCCR) & UNICEF Peshawar in district D.I.Khan, for the duration of the six months. According to this program 02 days orientation workshop was conducted for the members of organization in respect of child rights. A community seminar was organized every month in different villages and provincial level workshop was held at Peshawar, which had participated by children of less then 18 years. Moreover a field survey “Children Running Away from Home” had conducted. At the end of project a District seminar had hold for which elected Nazim, Naib-Nazim & Councilors were invited, and they were informed about child rights. A second phase program was completed next year, for the duration of the six months. Under second program by the support of 04 partner CBOs in five selected villages activities were made as under:-
Established child groups, workshop of training of training for activists, focus group discussion meetings about problems of the youth (boys & girls), and monthly reporting of child rights activities in respective areas.
5) Safe Motherhood Program- SPO
A project titled “Safe Motherhood Program” was concluded with the assistance of Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), Peshawar, in Union Council Mandhran Kalan, District D.I.Khan, for the duration of one year. 120 Health Activists (60 male & 60 female) had required to be trained regarding reproductive health. These Health Activists have been communicating to other community persons. At the end of project these Health Activists were provided with one-day refresher courses and also this orientation training was provided to union council councilors, Nazim & Naib-Nazim of union council Mandhran Kalan, District D.I.Khan.
6) Child Rights Program- NHRF
A project titled “Child Rights Program” was completed with the assistance of The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF)-Oslo, Norway in District D.I.Khan. The aim of this project was to create awareness in community about child rights. Duration of this project was one year. Training workshops, seminars, refresher workshops and child rights fair was held in this connection.
7) Elimination of Child Labor & Violence Against Children- AusAID
A project titled “Elimination of Child Labor & Violence Against Children” was finished with the assistance of Australian AID, Islamabad, in District D.I.Khan. Duration of this project was one year. The aim of this project was to promote awareness in community about child labor and violence against children and to make sure implementation of the relative laws. Training workshops, community sessions, orientation workshops and street theatre were arranged in this connection.
8) Promotion of Accountability through Local Initiative- DSP
A project titled “Promotion of Accountability through Local Initiative” was completed at District D.I.Khan level with the assistance e of Decentralization Support Program (DSP) Islamabad. This project comprises of six months period. Local CCBs, CBOs were being awarded of importance of monitoring committees included in District Council, Tehsil Council and Union Councils level under local government ordinance more ever importance of accountability in local government system is also conveyed to them. Similarly active members of the civil society were also being provided awareness on the local level accountability.
9) Children’s Development through Games & Sports- Insan Foundation
A project titled “Children’s Development through Games & Sports” was completed at District D.I.Khan level with the assistance of Insan Foundation Lahore and Right to Play Canada. This project was spread over a period of one year. Students of five selected schools were being trained physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally through specially designed games, so that they become a responsible citizen and a friendly atmosphere were be created between students and teachers.
10) NGOs Net for Women & Children- KESSA DIMITRA
The organization was partner of project titled “NGOs Net for Women & Children” in Pakistan. This project was finished with financial assistance of KESSA DIMITRA, Greece. This project was started to improve capacity building of organization and to promote linkages at national and international level. This project was two years period and different activities were being carried out.
11) Legal Literacy for Peaceful Society- LJCP
A project tit
led “Legal Literacy for Peaceful Society” has been ongoing at District D.I.Khan level with the assistance of Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) Islamabad. This project comprises of one year period. Organization has published material and has been conducting of training workshops for CCBs/CBOs, seminars and orientation workshops for awareness raising about legal literacy. In addition, a panel of legal awareness experts will conduct events related to legal rights issues.
12) Voter Education Campaign-UNDP
On the eve of the February 2008 General Elections to the National and Provincial Assemblies in Pakistan, the Organization started a project titled “Voters Education Campaign” in collaboration with United Nation Development Program (UNDP) Islamabad. This project was aimed at mobilizing all the voters including youth, male, female and minorities to cast their vote in that very election. This project was specified to the D.I.Khan and Tank Districts. A total of 62 Union Councils from both the districts were included and through public meetings, group discussion, festival, tournaments, debates and seminars, the people were motivated for the purpose. Some activities were also held at Tehsil and District level. Two other local partner organizations also collaborated in this regard.
ON-GOING PROJECTS
13) Support Community to Stop Violence-NHRF
Organization has been starting a project under the title, “Support Community to Stop Violence” at D.I.Khan district in collaboration with The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) Norway. In this regard the Organization has planned to organize capacity building workshops for different Civil Society Organizations. In addition to that arrangement of corner meetings, consultation meetings with governmental enforcement agencies and local government representatives, dispersal of awareness material, and awareness raising through radio programs is also inclusive in this project. This project is of one year duration i.e. from February 15, 2008 to February 14, 2009, the project is in progress and different activities are being held.
