The objectives of this proposal are as follows:
- To evaluate the potential of aquaponics and hydroponics systems for addressing food security challenges in urban areas.
- To develop best practices for the design, installation, and operation of aquaponics and hydroponics systems, and test these practices in a real-world setting.
- To assess the economic, environmental, and social benefits of aquaponics and hydroponics systems, including improvements in crop yields, reductions in water use, and impacts on farmer livelihoods.
- To provide training and technical assistance to urban farmers and other stakeholders on the use of aquaponics and hydroponics systems, including installation, maintenance, and cultivation techniques.
- To promote the adoption of aquaponics and hydroponics systems by urban farmers and other stakeholders, and develop policies and programs that incentivize their use.
- To evaluate the scalability and replicability of aquaponics and hydroponics systems, and develop recommendations for their widespread adoption in urban agriculture.
