Advocates for Youth is seeking applications from youth writers from around the world to report on sexual and reproductive health and rights during the International Year of Youth.
The International Year of Youth has begun from 12 August 2010 and will run up to 11 August 2011. For this year, the Advocates for Youth will recruit six youth writers between the age group 18 and 24 years. Applicants can be from sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America or Asia.
The selection criteria include:
- Interest in youth global sexual and reproductive health and rights issues
- Ability to commit to reporting throughout the year
- Strong writing skills
- Experience studying or working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth development, and/or journalism.
- Ability to travel to at least three international conferences (costs will be covered by Advocates) during the International Year of Youth
The benefits are: “The six youth writers will participate in a training hosted by Advocates for Youth in the United States, in Washington, DC, focused on blogging skills, new media, and youth global sexual and reproductive health and rights issues and policies. During the International Year of Youth, the youth writers will travel to three international conferences in order to report daily on youth sexual and reproductive health and rights issues. Lastly, the youth writers will post at least three blogs per month when they are not reporting from a conference. Advocates for Youth will cover travel to designated conferences and visa fees, in addition to lodging, and meals during the conferences. Advocates will also provide writers with a stipend of US$50.00 per month.”
