The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies (CPRS) promotes research and learning which contribute to a deeper understanding of peace and reconciliation.
CPRS’s online MA in Peacebuilding offers a higher education opportunity to middle and senior managers working for institutions including UN agencies, bilateral development organisations, national authorities and international and national NGOs. Candidates will typically have at least 6 years of work experience in areas related to peacebuilding, enabling them to complete a Masters award within one year through blended learning.
The aim is to provide an educational programme that meets their needs by evaluating their professional and training experience and mapping it against the first 120M credits of a Masters programme by the Accreditation of Prior Expriential Learning (APEL); and allowing them to then complete an MA through a subject specialist assignment and a dissertation.
The main mode of course delivery is off-campus via online access to a dedicated team of tutors, discussions with other course participants, and electronic information resources. The programme includes two three-day intensive residential workshops to be held in Coventry and Istanbul/London.
Objectives
The MA focuses on enhancing analytical skills and enabling students to apply theories and concepts to their existing knowledge and experiences, at the same time as formally evaluating and awarding credits for their work experience. In particular, the MA develops:
– Integrated critical awareness and understanding of peacebuilding management and related skills required for effective performance at a strategic level
– Specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of peacebuilding and related subject areas including conflict transformation and human security
– Research skills which can be applied in the work place to enhance management performance
– The ability to integrate theory and practice in complex situations, both systematically and creatively, to improve organisational performance and personal effectiveness
– Lifelong learning skills for career enhancement
